My Thoughts on Marginalization

I am sick of the same old narrative that I am a "sin and an abomination." Charlie Bird shared on his Instagram recently, the negative comments he gets daily. The comments were grotesque and awful. The comments were attacking from different angles of who he is and what he is promoting. It's annoying that many individuals feel like its their duty to tell you if you are doing something right or wrong.  In the Gospel, God is the ultimate judge. We--as imperfect individuals--cannot dictate who is right or wrong. We don't have the perfect understanding of ethics to determine or police other people's actions. Marginalization occurs "when certain groups of people get denied access to certain areas of society. Many factors can lead to this denial of access to institutions and opportunities, including historical bias and lack of funding. Marginalized people don't belong to one demographic. It can occur due to ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability ...

I Ditch Making Cookies To Sell Skincare For Men

I needed to get a big boy job that would benefit me more than trying to sell a cookie. As many of you know, I started working for a cookie company in September. It was a temporary position while I looked for a PR job or something remote. It took me several months to find a job that seemed interesting and applied to what I am studying in college. I found a job opportunity and was hired by the end of the week. The company is called Mox and it's a skincare company dedicated to strengthening men's skin through their 100% natural products. If you don't know, I love skincare products. I have a small routine that I do myself and I couldn't help but jump on this opportunity. I am a marketing specialist and I will be mainly helping coordinate collaborations with influencers and celebrities. We are currently discussing a deal with Chris Evans! This job is completely remote and pays more than the cookie shop! So, I am excited to get more experience and meet so many amazing in...

God's Plan

Since coming out, I have felt very lost. A majority of that confusion comes from knowing that I am not following the "traditional" plan that everyone else follows. I taught hundreds of individuals on my mission about the Plan of Salvation or the Plan God has created for us. But, as I have been 100% myself, I haven't seen God in my life as much as I thought I would. That changed this past summer, when I took a leap of faith and did a study abroad in hopes that I would like it, and declare my major. On the first day, the professor on the trip sat me down and asked me if he had convinced me to continue in the PR program. As I reflected on the day, we visited the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Trevi Fountain. Those experiences are forever ingrained in my brain. In that instance, I realized that God had been directing me. First, giving me a peer mentor in the PR program. As I got to know her, I met her peer mentor. As we became friends, he inspired my peer mentor--Ashlyn to ask...

Highlights of February

I think I am going to start adding these sections to my blog! They will offer some more photos with quick descriptions, so you can scroll and go on your way.  Tubing at Soldier Hollow Addison and I went up to Soldier Hollow with our ward to go tubing! SH has these massive hills that you can tube down and catch some good speed. It was really fun, and free which was a plus! We finished off the night with hot chocolate and donuts.  Dirtylicious My best-friend Alexa introduced me into this dance fitness class titled Dirtylicious. It involves more intimate dancing (think zumba but twerking and touching yourself expressively) and it's all about body positivity and loving what you have. The class is mostly girls, but I don't mind! It's a great workout and I burn about 650-800 calories with a dance combo.  Charlee's Birthday We celebrated Charlee's birthday! She had a lot of friends over and invited me which was super sweet. We had some yummy food and played some games! It...

Month of Love

This month can be especially hard for those who don't have much love in their lives. Or, they are still single. For me, my pattern of love has been difficult and it's hard to see my married friends spending time with their significant others when I don't have one myself. Being gay is difficult in Utah. Adding being an active gay LDS makes it even more difficult because I am compared to how the church has acted towards LGBTQ+ and I am instantly held to a standard or belief that I don't agree with.  When I've met other gay men, it's been difficult for them to accept my beliefs and the fact that I still am active. They can't get past the fact I have a belief system and that I continue to go when it's difficult. Dating has been hard for me in general....and I've felt inadequate and unable to have love in my life multiple times. I highly encourage you to reach out to those who identify in the LGBTQ+ community and make sure they feel loved.  Everyone des...

IN MY FITNESS "ERA"

What is an "ERA?" You may have heard the youth saying, "I am in my ___era." Era, is a term that Taylor Swift has used to describe each of her albums. Each album portrays an "era" or part of her life. An era is simply the "phase of life" you are currently in and it literally can be anything. I don't think I've cared for or had the motivation to care for my physical health this much until this year. I have been working out everyday since Jan 1st, and once a week, I attend a workout class with my best friend Alexa. I have found that working out with friends is the best motivator for me. It's been a blessing to have friends that value their health as well, and are willing to get up in the morning or late evenings to go do 30 minutes or more of exercise. I promise you as you try to workout everyday, you can start to see a change in every aspect of your life. There is a reason God has commanded that we take care of our bodies. He knew/kno...

ADDISON "ADOPTS" A CAT

"He just followed me home. Then I helped him up the stairs and into our apartment." If you read the highlight section carefully, I mentioned we temporarily "adopted" a cat named Jeb. The name didn't come from me, rather it came from my best friend/roommate Addison.  I got home from a workout at EOS with my best friend Alexa. Addison was pulling into his parking spot which is right next to mine. As I got out, he asked if I could help carry some things up to our apartment. Upon opening the car, I noticed the cat litter and litter box and lost it. According to Addison, he happened to have some cat food in his backpack (he's prepared for anything lol) and he fed the cat. The cat, in return, followed him home, up the stairs, and into our apartment. At first, I wasn't ready to have a cat as a roommate.  But after a day or two, he began to grow on me a little bit. Addison has now decided to take him to an animal shelter and is waiting to see if the owners ...

FRIENDSHIPS

As I mentioned, I went through a few friendship fallouts. The purpose of this newsletter is to keep you updated with things happening in my life which means the bad as well. I hold my friends to a certain standard, and when they aren't pulling their weight in the relationship, I have to re-evaluate and determine if I need to let them go. I believe some people are only supposed to walk into your life for a short amount of time while others last a lifetime. I had to let go of a friend I made recently and it was hard to let that friendship end. Although the pain of a broken heart is unbearable, I am happier than I have been in the past months because I am not wasting my energy trying to maintain a relationship with a friend that doesn't want to put in the equal work to be friends.
