FINDING THE SAMPLE MEAN OF A POPULATION

Do you know what this is talking about? No. Well, me either.

This summer, I went on a study abroad through BYU which was intended for the communications program. It was a month-long experience that covered two classes in the program. I was one—of two—males selected to go on the study abroad. The public relations program at BYU is a female-dominated major.

The experiences I had from that trip were remarkable and I am sure I will be bringing those experiences back into these emails at some point. At the conclusion of the study abroad, I was choosing my fall semester courses and I looked at the required classes I would have to take. In my Fall Semester of 2021, I took a College Algebra course that WAS SO HARD! I didn’t do well in that class, but it checked off my general education requirement. It would turn into a blessing to have her in that class because the teacher was not that great and I some of the things he talked about I didn’t agree.

“If you are wearing shorts above the knee, you are breaking your covenants.”

To those who aren’t a part of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, here’s a quick context of what this is talking about. Members of the Church wear religious garments underneath their clothes. These garments aren’t tailored to fit certain styles of clothing.

During my study abroad, we visited a Zara in Milan. I found these cute, green shorts. They are a shorter European style and I tried them on and they could be worn with my garments.

Now fast forward to this class, in which, I wore my favorite shorts and was called out by my professor because they didn’t adhere to the Honor Code, which doesn’t allow its students to wear shorts that go above the knee. But, have you seen how hideous knee-length shorts are? I’m sorry, but a little thigh didn’t hurt anyone.

The teacher claimed since we signed the Honor Code, we made a covenant with our “bishops and God” to abide by them. Now, his word choice of the covenant was incorrect.

“A covenant is a sacred agreement between God and a person or group of people. God sets specific conditions, and He promises to bless us as we obey those conditions. When we choose not to keep covenants, we cannot receive the blessings and in some instances, we suffer a penalty as a consequence of our disobedience.”
